We think Keawakapu is the best beach, but for a change you might want to go a little north to Kamaole 1, 2, or 3. More on Maui beaches.

You can learn to surf at Kalama Beach Park (just north of Kamaole 1). More surf lessons/kayak etc.  ...yet more

Across the street from Kalama Beach Park is Kihei Kalama Village with restaurants and open air shops.
